Tips for Better SexFor the Bold and AdventurousLove and sexualityFirst Steps in SexualityBedroom Dilemmas: How to tell your partner you want something new?
What if you want pegging, anal exploration, a threesome or more self-pleasure, but you do not know how to tell your partner? In the new blog from the Bedroom Dilemmas series, we answer honest questions about fantasies, boundaries, lubricants and relationships. Some bedroom dilemmas are not difficult because they are so unusual. They are difficult because we do not know how to say them out loud.
What if you want something new, but you are afraid your partner will think they are not enough for you? What if a fantasy turns you on, but it feels a little too “out there”? What if you would like to try something, but you do not know whether it is truly your desire or just a fantasy?
These are questions people carry inside themselves much more often than they actually say them out loud.
That is why we are bringing you a new blog from the Bedroom Dilemmas series, where we answer anonymous questions about sexuality, relationships, fantasies and pleasure.
Without judgment.
Without panic.
And without the feeling that you need to have all the answers right away.
If you recognize yourself in any of the questions below, you are not weird. Chances are, you are simply a person with desires, questions and boundaries you are still trying to understand.
How do I tell my partner that I would like to try pegging?
First: do not try to present it as something you need to “convince” her to do. This is really important.
When it comes to sexuality, the goal is not to talk someone into something, but to open a conversation. Pegging can be a very exciting form of exploration for some couples, while for others it may not feel close to them at all. Both are completely okay.
If this is something you want, the best thing is to start the conversation calmly, honestly and without expecting your partner to say yes right away.
You can start something like this: “I have been thinking for a while about exploring anal stimulation on me together. I feel a little embarrassed saying this, but I would like to talk to you about it because I trust you.”
This shows her that it is not about pressure, but about an honest desire and a conversation.
It is also important to explain what attracts you to it. Maybe it is not about roles or domination, but about the feeling of surrender, trust, curiosity or prostate stimulation. The better you can explain what you want, the less likely it is that your partner will misunderstand your desire.
For men, anal stimulation is often also connected to the prostate, which is a very sensitive pleasure point. This says nothing about your masculinity, sexual orientation or who you are as a partner. It only says that your body can be sensitive to a certain type of stimulation.
And if she says no? Then the answer is no.
That does not mean she does not accept you. It simply means that this experience may not feel close to her. As with all other fantasies, it is important that the desire is mutual.
The best first step is not buying a strap-on.
The best first step is a conversation where both of you feel safe.
What is the difference between regular and anal lubricant?
The difference is mainly in the texture, the feeling and the intended use.
Regular lubricants are usually created for general use during intimacy, with toys or for extra moisture. They can be water-based, silicone-based or oil-based, but for everyday use, water-based lubricant is the most common choice because it is the most universal.
Anal lubricants are usually thicker, longer-lasting and made for extended glide. This is important because the anal area does not have natural moisture, so lubricant is truly essential here. Not as an “extra”, but as part of the experience that can make exploration much more pleasant, safe and relaxed.
If you are exploring anal stimulation, it is better to choose a lubricant made for that purpose. When using toys, always check the toy’s material too. With silicone toys, the safest choice is a water-based lubricant because it works well with most materials.
The most important rule is very simple: better too much lubricant than too little.
There is no rush with anal exploration. Start slowly, listen to your body and do not skip preparation. Lubricant here is not something that “slightly improves the feeling”, but one of the key parts of the experience.
If something burns, hurts or creates an unpleasant feeling of friction, stop. This is not a moment for proving anything, but a sign that the body needs more time, more relaxation or more lubricant.
Anal stimulation can be very pleasurable, but only when it is relaxed, slow and without pressure.
I would like to watch my partner with someone else. How do I ask her without scaring her?
This is also one of those fantasies that more people have than you might think.
But because it involves a third person, jealousy, boundaries and relationship dynamics, it needs to be approached very carefully.
First, try to understand for yourself what actually turns you on about this fantasy. Is it watching? The feeling of surrender? The idea that your partner is desired? The fantasy of a threesome? Or maybe something completely different?
Once you understand your desire better, it will also be easier to explain it.
You can start the conversation very gently: “I have a fantasy that I feel a little embarrassed to talk about. I do not expect us to make it happen, but I would like to tell you about it because it is important to me to be honest with you.”
This immediately shows your partner that it is not about pressure.
This is very important because this kind of fantasy can quickly trigger insecurity. Your partner may wonder whether she is not enough for you. Whether you want someone else. Whether you are comparing her to others. Whether something is missing in the relationship.
That is why it is good to immediately emphasize that the fantasy is not a criticism of your relationship.
You can add something like: “This does not mean that you are not enough for me. It is more of a fantasy that turns me on in my head, and I would like to share it with you without expecting that we have to act on it.” Then observe her reaction.
If she feels uncomfortable, do not push further. If she is interested, the conversation can develop. If she needs time, give her time.
With fantasies like this, it is very important that both of you feel safe.
If you were ever to even consider making it a reality, the boundaries would need to be extremely clear.
What is allowed, what is not, who chooses the third person, what happens if one of you changes their mind, what stop means and what happens afterward.
And most importantly: anyone can say no at any time.
Without explanation. Without guilt. Without pressure.
Sometimes a fantasy is already enough as a conversation. Maybe you include it only in dirty talk. Maybe it stays as something you tell each other when you are alone. Maybe it never goes further than words.
And that is completely okay.
Not every fantasy has to become reality to be valid.
How much self-pleasure is too much in a relationship?
Self-pleasure in a relationship is not a problem in itself.
Many people enjoy self-pleasure even in happy, healthy and sexually active relationships. This does not mean that their partner is not enough. It does not mean that something is missing from the relationship. And it does not mean that the desire for solo pleasure is something bad.
In reality, self-pleasure can be a completely normal part of sexuality, even when you are in a relationship.
The question is not “how many times is too much”, but whether it affects the relationship, well-being or intimacy between partners. If self-pleasure exists alongside partnered intimacy and does not cause problems, then there is usually no reason to panic.
A problem can arise when it becomes the only space for sexuality. When the partner feels excluded. When it is not talked about. Or when one person hides their habits and the other creates a story in their head that they are no longer attractive.
Sometimes self-pleasure is not the problem. The silence around it is.
That is why it is good for partners to talk about it honestly, without blame.
For example:“It does not bother me that you enjoy self-pleasure, but sometimes it makes me feel a little distant. Can we talk about it?”
Or:“Self-pleasure is still important to me, but that does not mean I desire you any less.”
These conversations can be awkward, but often very relieving.
Because when we talk about something, we often realize it is not as scary as it felt in our heads.
Self-pleasure and partnered sexuality do not have to be rivals. They can exist at the same time. Solo pleasure can be a space for getting to know your own body, while partnered pleasure can be a space for connection, closeness and shared exploration.
The only important thing is that no one feels rejected, hidden or less valued because of it.
How do I know if I am ready for a threesome or just fantasizing?
This is a very good question. Because fantasy and reality are not the same thing.
In a fantasy, you have full control. Everything happens exactly the way you want it to. No one reacts unexpectedly. There is no jealousy. No awkwardness. No question of what happens afterward.
In reality, emotions, bodies, boundaries, reactions and a relationship that still exists the next day are all involved.
That is why it is completely possible that the idea of a threesome turns you on a lot, but you do not actually want to make it happen.
And there is nothing wrong with that.
A fantasy does not always need to be realized.
Before you even talk to your partner about actually doing it, ask yourself a few honest questions:
Do I want this even when I am not turned on?
Can I imagine my partner with another person without feeling broken by it?
Can we talk about this without pressure?
Can I express my boundaries?
Can I accept my partner’s no?
Would I be okay even if we ultimately decided not to do it?
If the answer to most of these questions is no, then maybe this fantasy is more suitable as a fantasy for now.
And that does not make it any less “hot”.
It does not make it any less interesting. It does not make it any less real.
Some fantasies are beautiful precisely because they stay in the mind, in conversation or in play between partners.
But if you realize that the desire is truly present even outside of arousal, then the next step is a conversation. Not an agreement. A conversation.
This means that you and your partner first explore how you both feel about the idea. What attracts you to it. What scares you. What would be completely out of bounds. And what would need to happen for both of you to feel safe.
With a threesome, it is not enough for the idea to be exciting. It is important that it feels emotionally safe.
If one partner agrees only because they do not want to lose the other, that is not a good starting point. If one person pushes and the other gives in, that is not shared exploration. If you cannot talk about boundaries beforehand, it will be even harder to respect them in the moment.
So take your time.
The fantasy can wait. Your relationship deserves more than an impulsive decision made in a moment of arousal.
