Bedroom dilemmas: Am I a bad girlfriend if I don’t want sex?

Do you ever wonder if something is wrong with you if you’re not in the mood for sex or if you’re not honest in bed? We answer common, yet rarely spoken, dilemmas about sexuality.

A little different than usual…

Some questions about sexuality stay only in your head.

Not because they aren’t important, but because they’re hard to put into words.

Sometimes because it feels like you “should already know this”. Other times because you don’t want to seem weird. And sometimes simply because you don’t even know who to tell.

But those questions are often the most important ones.

This time, we’re opening up a few of them - honest, direct and very common, just rarely said out loud.

Am I a bad girlfriend if I don’t want to have sex?

No. Really, no.

The desire for sex isn’t constant. It comes and goes. It can be affected by stress, tiredness, hormones, relationship dynamics and also how you feel about yourself.

Very often, something interesting happens - desire disappears exactly when the feeling that you “have to” appears. When sex is no longer a choice but an expectation, the body often reacts by pulling away.

That’s why it’s important to allow yourself to listen to yourself. To allow yourself to say no. And not to measure your worth by how often you have sex.

Sex is not an obligation. It’s something you choose.

Honestly, before I click “buy”, I often think: what will they think of me?

This is one of those thoughts many people have, but rarely admit.

There is still a feeling that using toys “means something”. That it says something about you, your relationship or your life.

But in reality, it says only one thing: that you’re interested in your own body and that you allow yourself to explore. And that is completely normal.

Many people have the same doubts. The only difference is that some click “buy” anyway, while others hesitate a little longer.

In the end, the only thing that matters is what you want, not what others think.

How do you start with “dirty talk” if you feel embarrassed?

Dirty talk often sounds very confident in theory. In practice, it can quickly happen that you’re left without words.
And that’s completely OK.

You don’t have to start with big statements or sound like someone else. It’s enough to start simply - with a reaction to what feels good to you.

When you say that you like something, that you want more or that your partner shouldn’t stop, you’ve already done more than you think. The key is to stay in your own language. Not to play a role, but to speak the way you actually feel.

With time, it becomes easier. And much more natural.

I’ve already faked orgasms… and now I don’t know how to get out of it.

This is a situation many people find themselves in.

It often starts with good intentions - to avoid awkwardness, so your partner doesn’t think they’re doing something wrong, or simply because you want the moment to end.

But in the long run, it creates confusion. Your partner thinks they’re doing the right things, while you know that isn’t quite true. And so the same patterns keep repeating.

The good news is that you don’t need to make a big confession or reveal everything from the past.

It helps much more to start guiding things from now on. To say what feels good to you now. To suggest something different.

That way, you’re not fixing the past, but improving future experiences.

How much communication during sex is “normal”?

There isn’t one right amount.

Some people talk a lot, others hardly at all. And both can be completely fine.

It’s more about whether both of you feel good and understand each other. For some, a look or a touch is enough, while for others, words matter.

The problem only starts when you expect your partner to know without you telling them.

Sex isn’t guessing. In a way, it’s always communication,  even without words.

Do you have a dilemma too?

This was another blog from the Bedroom Dilemmas series, where we open up questions that aren’t talked about enough, even though almost all of us have them.

Chances are, you’re not the only one. It’s just that rarely anyone says it out loud.
